Cycle Travel Club is heading to Kerala, India!

You know, Kerala really caught me off guard. I've been on plenty of cycling trips, but there's something truly special about this place. As I pedaled through the winding roads, I found myself surrounded by a kind of natural beauty that's hard to put into words - lush green landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see, mist-covered hills, and serene backwaters that reflect the sky like mirrors.  But it wasn't just the scenery that got to me. There's a richness to the culture here, a sense of history and tradition that you can feel in the air. From colorful festivals to ancient temples, every day brought something new to discover. What really struck me, though, was the overall feeling of the place. There's a calmness, a sort of spiritual energy that seems to permeate everything. It's not in-your-face; it's subtle, but it's there.By the time I finished the tour, I realized something had shifted inside me. It wasn't just about the miles I'd covered or the sights I'd seen. Kerala had worked its magic on me in ways I hadn't expected. I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and somehow...changed. It's an experience that'll stay with me for a long time to come.

It’s like a cultural exchange program, but with more cycling shorts and energy bars! So, clip in and join us for a ride that’s not just good for your legs and your soul, but for the planet and its people too.

Small Groups

We’re keeping our peloton petite with a max of 12 riders, because who wants to feel like they’re cycling through rush hour traffic in Mumbai? This intimate group size means you’ll have plenty of elbow room to soak in the lush backwaters, spice-scented hills, and palm-fringed coastlines of God’s Own Country. It’s like having a private viewing of Kerala’s greatest hits! With our small squad, we can sneak into hidden gems that big groups would trample over – think impromptu tea tastings at hillside plantations, peaceful rides through sleepy villages, and up-close encounters with local life that’ll have you feeling like part of the family. So, grab your helmet and join our cycling sitcom – with a cast this small, you’re guaranteed to be more than just an extra in Kerala’s epic scenery. It’s not just a bike tour; it’s your own personal Bollywood blockbuster on wheels!

Expert Guides

Gear up for a Kerala cycling adventure that’s spicier than a masala dosa and more diverse than a banana leaf meal! Our expert tour leader, with 15 years of pedaling experience, isn’t just a guide – they’re your personal Kerala encyclopedia on wheels. They’ll steer you through misty Western Ghats forests echoing with exotic birdsong, past emerald tea plantations that carpet the hills like a patchwork quilt, and into fragrant spice gardens that’ll have you sniffing out the difference between cardamom and cinnamon in no time. But wait, there’s more! Our dream team of local experts will unveil the secrets of ancient temples, where intricate carvings whisper tales older than the spice trade, and guide you through fascinating museums that piece together Kerala’s rich historical tapestry. It’s like having a bunch of cool Kerala cousins showing you their hometown, from decoding temple rituals to pointing out the best spot for a backwater sunset. So clip in and get ready for a ride that’s part history lesson, part cultural immersion, and 100% unforgettable. With our expert squad leading the way, you’ll be trading those cycling shorts for a lungi faster than you can say “chai break,” all while experiencing the diverse wonders of God’s Own Country!

Bike Mechanic

We’ve got your wheels covered on this Kerala cycling extravaganza. No need to lug your trusty steed halfway across the globe or play bicycle Tetris with your luggage – we’re hooking you up with a swanky Trek Marlin Hybrid bike that’s ready to tackle everything from beachside cruises to spice plantation climbs. It’s like having a loyal metal steed, perfectly tuned to Kerala’s diverse terrain. And because we know bikes can be as temperamental as a moody elephant, we’ve got a stash of spare parts that would make a cycle shop jealous. Inner tubes, cables, spokes – you name it, we’ve got it. Our bike mechanic is a wizard with a wrench, keeping your ride smoother than a fresh jar of ghee. Now, here’s the cherry on top: we provide default saddles, helmets, and pedals, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer – after all, a happy backside makes for a happy rider! Just pack your helmet, cleats, and saddle if you’re particular about your gear, and we’ll handle the rest. So forget the hassle of bike logistics and focus on the important stuff – like whether to have your post-ride coconut water with or without malai. From saddle to pedal, we’ve got your back (and your backside) covered.

Extra Notes

While we’ve crafted an itinerary as tantalizing as a perfectly spiced curry, remember that flexibility is our middle name (right after “cycling” and before “enthusiasts”). Just like the unpredictable monsoon rains that keep Kerala lush and green, our plans might see a sprinkle of spontaneity. We’ll tailor our daily rides to match the group’s energy levels – because let’s face it, sometimes those spice plantation hills can be spicier than expected!

Speaking of hills, a quick note about our distance and elevation stats: they’re as approximate as a chai wallah’s “just a pinch” of ginger. Depending on where we lay our helmets each night and where we clip in each morning, the numbers might wiggle a bit. But hey, that’s all part of the adventure, right? Whether we end up pedaling an extra kilometer to catch a stunning sunset over the backwaters or take a shortcut through a fragrant cardamom grove, we promise every turn of the wheel will be worth it.

So, keep your spirits, your flexibility as fluid, and your sense of adventure as spicy as a Kerala fish curry. After all, in the land of endless surprises, the journey is just as thrilling as the destination. Let’s ride!

What is the tipping procedure?

Tipping in India, including Kerala, is a common practice in the tourism industry, but it’s important to approach it with cultural sensitivity and awareness. It is also important to get it right (not too much, not too little). We recommend the offerings below (if your budget allows):

Typical Currency Exchange from USD to INR (Indian Rupee): $1 USD to 84 INR

Use XE.com to convert currencies.

  1. Tour Guides and Leaders:
    • It’s customary to tip your main tour guide or leader.
    • A suggested amount is around 750-1000 INR (Indian Rupees) per day, per person (if he is with you throughout)
    • For a 10-day tour, this would amount to approximately 7500-10000 INR per person.
  2. Support Staff:
    • Consider tipping support staff such as drivers, mechanics, and assistants.
    • A typical amount would be 500 INR per day, per person, for each support staff member, especially when he is also a guide for the tour.
    • Otherwise, 300 INR per person per day.
  3. Hotel Staff:
    • Houseboat crew – INR 100 – 200 per person per day.
    • For porters, a tip of 20-50 INR per bag is appreciated.
    • For housekeeping, consider leaving 50-100 INR per night in your room upon checkout.
    • At some hotels, there is central tipping – try to calculate how much you would have tipped individuals and then round it up if you have enjoyed your stay. If you know that the gardeners and cleaning staff are also getting a share, then it is nice to be generous as you know that your money is helping the lower-paid workers.
  4. Restaurants:
    • Many restaurants include a service charge. If not, a 5-10% tip is generally sufficient.
    • In more upscale establishments, 10-15% is appropriate if service charge isn’t included.
  5. Group Tipping Pool:
    • Often, tour leaders will organize a group tipping pool for shared staff.
    • This simplifies the process and ensures all support staff are fairly compensated.
  6. Timing:
    • Tips are usually given at the end of the tour or when leaving a particular service.
  7. Currency:
    • Always tip in Indian Rupees (INR). Foreign currency can be difficult for locals to exchange.
  8. Discretion:
    • While tipping is appreciated, it’s not mandatory. Base your tipping on the quality of service received

Remember, these are guidelines, and you should feel comfortable adjusting based on your experience and the level of service provided. If you’re unsure about tipping in a specific situation, don’t hesitate to ask your tour leader for advice. They can provide context-specific guidance to ensure your gratuities are both appropriate and appreciated.
